2023 Best Restaurant to Meet Wealthy Divorcées

Saloon

From the BMWs in the valet lot to the icy martinis poured from the wood-lined bar to the dessert platter adorned with Isgro pastries that wanders tantalizingly through the dining room, this is a restaurant functioning in another era. But don’t be put off: The steaks are rare, the lobster pasta is spicy and saucy, and the Caesar salad is rich with egg yolks and anchovies. Saloon is ready for its third marriage, and we’re all vying for its hand. Read More »

2017 Best Old-School Steakhouse

Saloon

Resistance to change is usually a restaurant’s death knell, but the fact that Saloon has never succumbed to trends (it’s more than 50 years old!) turns out to be its best asset. Well, that and the big ol’ grilled veal chop. Read More »

2016 Best Old-School Steakhouse

The Pub in Pennsauken

There's a time and place for fancy, clubby steakhouses. But when you want to go seriously retro, try the Pub, where the steaks all come off a charcoal-fired hearth, an expansive salad bar is included, and you do your feasting in a medieval dining hall on the outskirts of Camden. Read More »

2013 Best Steakhouse

Robert’s

In 2007, New York Times restaurant critic Frank Bruni declared that Roberts, a spot inside the Penthouse gentlemens club, had some of the very best steaks in New York City. Well, Roberts has now expanded to Atlantic City, and the steaks here reach that rarely achieved level known as utter perfection. And no, you dont have to go to a strip club to enjoy them. But you do have to go to the Taj. Read More »

2011 Best Steakhouse

Capital Grille

While everyone else was perfecting lavender foams and coddled quail eggs, the Capital Grille stayed true to hulking cuts of red meat and stiff martinis. Thank God. Read More »

2010 Best Steakhouse

Butcher and Singer

The vintage vibe. Tuxedo-clad waiters, black leather booths, houndstooth carpeting. The throwback dishes. Olive-oil-and-egg-rich Caesar salads topped with fresh ground pepper, and baked Alaska for dessert. Damn fine gin martinis, shaken and poured tableside. A good steakhouse has so much more than just good steaks. (Those are good, too.) Read More »

2009 Best Steakhouse (Value)

The Pub

This cavernous steakhouse feels like it hasn't changed since Truman was in office and yes, we mean that as a good thing. A throwback in the style of the old Zaberer's in North Wildwood, it has a basic salad bar (iceberg and bacon bits) that beckons; a luscious, fatty rib eye that comes with jus to spare for the huge foil-wrapped baked potato; and no-nonsense waitresses who don't flinch should someone at the table ask for his meat medium-well. The Pub's got ambience and steak (and onion rings!) in spades all for a third of the cash you'd drop at your typical Center City steakhouse. Read More »

2012 Best Classic Restaurant

The Library II

This dining room and bar, surrounded by a bevy of old books, is one of a kind and oozes candlelit (as in actual flames, not the electric "candles") character. After ordering your steak or seafood (by the ounce) from a man at the kitchen's brick counter, enjoy strong cocktails and the stellar salad bar. Yes, we said salad bar. Get over yourself. They don't make restaurants like the Library anymore. And that's a damn shame. Read More »
