One of the fun perks about being a health and fitness editor is getting unexpected packages in the mail. Sometimes it’s a bust—dog food. That was a good one—and sometimes it’s great, like today. Skincando sent me its Combat-Ready Lip Balm, and my pathetically chapped lips couldn’t be happier. The Combat-Ready line, which boasts organic ingredients and high praises from U.S. troops stationed in Iraq and Afghanistan for its impressive healing properties, is now being sold locally at JuJu Salon & Organics. This morning while listening to The Today Show I became so annoyed that I had to stop blow-drying my hair and turn around and actually pay attention to what Matt and Meredith were saying with more than a single ear. The topic: SunChips’ eco-friendly, 100-percent biodegradable bag—the first of its kind—has come under fire for being, quite simply, TOO LOUD.
Yes, that’s right. It is too crinkly. It makes too much NOISE. It’s causing “noise pollution.” Numerous Americans—nearly 30,000 of them have flocked to their very own Facebook group with the title “SORRY BUT I CAN’T HEAR YOU OVER THIS SUN CHIPS BAG” to complain—would rather fill landfills and be able to roll their SunChips bags down quietly than deal with this eardrum atrocity, even if said atrocity is better for the Earth. (Which is, in case they forgot, actually the planet that we live on and call home.) Read more »

After training for Broad Street for the past 9 weeks, I cannot tell you how terrible the bottoms of my feet look. These babies have endured blisters, bumps, and are working on calluses so tough that I imagine firewalkers would have a hard time competing with them. So, in a complete SOS for my tootsies, we called some of Philly’s top beauty pros and asked for their very best defense against the dreaded “fitness foot”—aka, those tough, cracked soles that you’re slightly ashamed to slip into sandals.
Run on, Philly. Just keep a few of these ped-saving products around the house and show those two wonderful appendages how much we appreciate them (regularly, please).
