Sneak Peek: This Is What the 2014 Broad Street Run Race Shirt Looks Like

The 12th Street Gym just posted a photo of the 2014 Broad Street Run race shirt, which one of its employees received in the mail along with her race bib.

I have to say, I love, love, love this year’s design. The fonts are great, the illustration is great, and it keeps with the vintage feel of the throwback BSR shirts I told you about yesterday.

What do you think?

Throwback 1980 Broad Street Run Race Shirt Now Available at Modell’s

broad streetDreams do come true, my friends. Remember a few weeks back when I shared what is absolutely, most definitely the best #ThrowbackThursday post of all time: a photo of the original Broad Street Run race shirt from 1980? Well. The Blue Cross Broad Street Run must have a pretty smart marketing/PR department, because they’ve just reissued the shirt, thanks to all the positive feedback from their #TBT, and are selling it through Modell’s Sporting Goods.

How to Get Free Beer After the Broad Street Run

beerI was Googling around yesterday looking for info on local hiking groups and stumbled on to the website for TerraMar Adventures, a local company that puts together some pretty rad outdoor adventure trips. Then I got really in the weeds and found a posting for free post-race beers for Broad Street runners in May. So how, exactly, do TerraMar and running go together?

Here’s how: The guy who runs TerraMar is Carl Ewald—he’s the same guy who runs the ODDyssey Half Marathon in June and the new race-training program on the Ben Franklin Bridge I told you about last month. So, obviously, he’s big into running. The ODDyssey will have a booth at this year’s Broad Street Expo, so Carl is teaming up with the folks at McFadden’s at Citizens Bank Park to offer free beer to Broad Street runners after the race.

Okay, dejected Broad Street Run hopefuls, let’s recap your options for getting into the race: You’ve got the bib-transfer program and charity-bib options. You had the Healthy Trails 5K, but their website says they’re now sold out of Broad Street bibs, so womp womp. And, of course, there’s the bandit route, but I will not officially condone that.

In some informal research for this weekly playlist, I’ve been asking friends what their favorite running tunes are. The consensus: classic rock. Being more of a J.Lo-hits-from-the-early-2000′s kind of girl myself, this is honestly the absolute last genre I would’ve guessed. So all of you classic rock lovers can thank my friends for this week’s playlist, which is tailor-made just for you.

Um, so this is pretty awesome. The folks over at the ODDyssey Half Marathon are hosting a five-week running program in April that includes group training runs on the Ben Franklin Bridge and post-workout happy hours where participants will get a free beer.

The Philadelphia Bridge Running Training Program, which is brand-spanking new, is open to runners of all levels—even those who aren’t signed up to run the ODDyssey on June 8th. And in fact, the program is pretty much perfectly timed for the Broad Street Run (it ends the Tuesday before race day), so BSR participants can get in on the fun, too.
