Surprise, Runners: #RuntoWorkPHL Is This Friday!

Time to dust off your sneakers and give your SEPTA pass a break.

We know you guys have been patiently awaiting news of when #RuntoWorkPHL, AKA Run to Work Day Philly, AKA the best commute of the year, is going to go down, and we have answers: the annual #RuntoWorkPHL, which we started in collaboration with Run215 and Philadelphia Runner four years ago (man, time fliiiiies), is going down this Friday, September 22nd. Your instructions are simple: Run — yes, as in lace up your sneakers and run — to work.

To give you some background, #RuntoWorkPHL is a day designed to make people in Philadelphia rethink their commutes — does your commute really need to be a miserably cramped SEPTA ride where your head is forced into a stranger’s armpit for the few minutes of chill time you get before heading into the office? No, no it doesn’t. And does your commute really need to be a frustrating, traffic-jammed car ride? Not necessarily. And if your desk is a marathon’s distance away from your bed, don’t let that deter you: There are workarounds. Drive halfway and run the rest; take the train in, hop off, and run a loop before heading to the office. You can’t do too little or too much with #RuntoWorkPHL. (Psst: We also have plenty of tips for running to work here.)

And if endorphins aren’t enough incentive for you to pound the pavement into the office, know this: Our lovely friends at Philadelphia Runner will be giving some lucky #RuntoWorkPHL participants prizes. (Insert squeals here.) All you have to do to get a chance at winning a prize is snap a sweaty selfie of yourself running into the office on Friday and post it to Instagram using the hashtag #RuntoWorkPHL and tagging @bewellphilly, @phillyrun and @run_215.

You can let us know if you’ll be running to work — and hopefully find folks in your ‘hood to run with, if you’re looking for running buddies — here. See you out there, friends!
