10 Coolest Philly Fitness and Foodie Events: February 2017

Grab your calendar and pen!

It’s that time again, friends: Time to fill next month’s calendar chock-full of events that will keep you movin’. Find our top picks for where to sweat — and a few events to chow down at — below.

1. Shake Your Asana
When: Friday, February 17th at 9 p.m.
Where: Priya Hot Yoga, 1828 Callowhill Street, Fairmount.
Um, this sounds ah-mazing: The folks at Priya are putting on a yoga dance party that will put your solo dance-in-the-mirror sessions to shame. First, you’ll got through an hourlong yoga flow class, then you’ll dance to tunes spun by DJ Nate Spross for the next hour. The whole shebang will end with a savasana. I repeat: Ah-mazing. $30.

2. Cupid’s Undie Run
When: Saturday, February 18th at 12 p.m.
Where: XFinity Live, 1100 Pattison Avenue, South Philly.
Because when else do you get to strip down to your undies — in the middle of February, no less — and run around in public without having the police and/or the psych ward called? That’s right: Never. This one-mile run starts and ends at XFinitiy Live (yes, the bar is open well before the run starts), with proceeds going to the Children’s Tumor Foundation. $35.

3. Valentine’s Day Dinner with WholePHL
When: Thursday, February 9th at 7 p.m.
Where: Function Coffee Labs, 1001 South 10th Street, Bella Vista.
Treat your boo — or your bestie — and yourself to a Valentine’s dinner that you don’t have to make yourself. This bad boy will be educational, too: The ladies from WholePHL will show you how to put together an out-of-this-world four-course plant-based dinner, and then you’ll chow down. $65.

4. #RunStreakPHL
When: Every day in February
Where: Wherever you are!
For the second year, Run215 is challenging Philly runners to run at least one mile every damn day this month — and document it, both on Instagram and in a shared Google Sheets doc. They payoff? Well, come the end of the month, there will be prizes, finishers’ certificates and a blowout party in it for participants. Free.

5. Meditate Your Action Meeting
When: February 10th and 24th at 6 p.m.
Where: Philly Yoga Factory, 1520 Sansom Street, Center City.
If you’ve been feeling like the world is a hot mess, but have no idea how to make change in it (I’m with you,) that’s where this meditation group — which meets at Philly Yoga Factory — comes in: Their bimonthly meetings are part discussion and part guided meditation, designed to clear out your brain fog and gear you up to make change. We can dig it. Free.

6. Step Up Your Golf Game with Gwinyai Murahwa
When: February 11th, 18th and 25th at 1 p.m.
Where: PHL Athletics and CrossFitPHL, 2017 South Juniper Street, South Philly.
If your golf game is lagging (because that happens in winter, doesn’t it?), this three-part series with trainer Gwinyai Murahwa of ITrainLion (he’s also a Titleist Performance Institute-certified golf guru, by the way) will get you back on track before spring rolls around. $60 for Workshop 1, where you’ll get a golf fitness assessment; $125 for the entire series.

7. Pop-Up Run with Honeygrow and Philadelphia Runner Manayunk
When: Saturday, February 4th at 9 a.m.
Where: 4358 Main Street, Manayunk.
First off, let me say: There will be post-run honeybar samples from Honeygrow. Now, need I say more? Probably not, but I will. This pop-up run, in celebration of the newly renovated Honeygrow Bala Cynwyd, will take folks over the new Manayunk Bridge and along the Cynwyd Heritage trail. Then, post-run, there will be honeybars for all. Mmmmmmmm. Free.

8. In the Saddle Charity Ride at Body Cycle Studio
When: Friday, February 3rd at 7:30 p.m.
Where: Body Cycle Studio, 1923 Chestnut Street, Rittenhouse.
Some might argue that Friday-evening workouts are the worst. I would argue the opposite — they are the BEST, mostly because, come Saturday morning, you can wake up and march straight to brunch without shame. And this Friday event is supporting In the Saddle, a Philadelphia-based non-profit that aims to help recovering addicts through cycling. So it’s EXTRA great, in our opinion. $35.

9. Friday Night Yoga Club: Drake Edition
When: Friday, February 3rd at 6:30 p.m.
Where: Three Queens Yoga, 410 Monroe Street, Queen Village.
If you missed our Be Well Philly Underground Drake Yoga Class, the lovely Mariel Freeman — who was the wonderful instructor for that event — is putting on an encore of sorts at Three Queens Yoga this friday: She’ll be putting on a 90-minute yoga class taught entirely to Drake tunes. Yep, it’s going to be great. $18.

10. Beginner’s Mile
When: Saturday, February 18th at 9 a.m.
Where: 3621 Walnut Street, University City.
Okay, this one’s for all our friends who’ve thought about running but get hives whenever they get ready to lace up their (unworn) running shoes for the first time. Team Philly Race Training and Philadelphia Runner are teaming up to put on a mile-long run just for YOU. It will kick off with an intro-to-running discussion and then you’ll hit the pavement. And to quell your hives, know that run-walking won’t be frowned upon.
