Sorry to break it to you, but holiday break is over and it’s time to stop lounging on the couch and start thinking about lacing up your running shoes. (I know, it’s upsetting. But we all have to come back to reality at some point.) And if your running goal for 2016 is to tackle a half marathon, registration for the ODDyssey Half Marathon comes just in time! Registration for this year’s race, which will go down at the Please Touch Museum on June 12th, opened at 10 a.m. today. And to sweeten the whole slipping-back-into-reality thing, the race has made some sweet changes this year. But don’t worry: The finish-line beer garden, which comes complete with a free pint of beer for every runner, isn’t going anywhere. Phew.

In terms of changes to the race, this year, they’re offering bib transfers (with a transfer fee) to folks who register before January 31st. So if you, in an overexcited “New year, new me” moment, commit today, only to realize come April that you are totally unprepared, you can transfer your bib to another runner. (But, I mean, you totally won’t do that because you’re a beast.) They’re also introducing a relay option, where two runners run a little over a 10K distance to complete the 13.1 miles. And last but certainly not least, this year, they’re going to be allowing pacers, forbidden by many races, for the last three-ish miles of the race. You know, when you really need a friend by your side to reassure you that you will not die before you get to the finish line. And, in some sad news, this will be the last year to snag the race’s signature wall-mounted beer-opener medal. (Too many copycats out there, says race director Carl Ewald.)

Along with these additions, they’ll have their usual optional challenges throughout the race and, of course, their post-race bash, complete with a free beer garden hosted by Sly Fox and live music. Oh! And, after the race, Philamassages will be on deck doling out free massages. (You will be in desperate need of one.) And don’t forget, silly costumes are strongly encouraged, so start thinking about yours now! Registration is $69 through January 8th, and continually jumps in price up to race day, given it doesn’t sell out before then. You can find out more and register here. And note: If you register today, you could win a $25 gift card to Philadelphia Runner. They’ll be announcing winners on their Facebook page every hour between 11 a.m. an 9 p.m. today.
