If you haven’t had a chance yet to take an Indego bike out for a whirl, mark your calendar for Monday, December 21st. The bike-share program is hosting the Polar Express Ride, in which you give a little and get, well, a free bike ride.

Here’s the skinny: At 5:30 p.m., participants will gather at Indego’s 12th and Filbert station — the one by Reading Terminal Market — to ride to Project HOME, at 1515 Fairmount Avenue. They’ll be bringing with them bike baskets full of hats, gloves, scarves, socks, bedding, pillows, towels and toys for elementary-age kids. In exchange for the donated goods, Indego waive your bike-usage fees during the ride AND you’ll get festive treats from the folks at Project HOME, including cookies, tea and hot cocoa. Sweet, right?

It’s free to sign up, and you can opt to ride your own bike or use an Indego bike. And you don’t have to be an Indego member to use one of their bikes, either. All the info about the ride, including where to sign up, is here.
