Yards Brewing Company Is Starting a Brunch Running Series

Runs end with brunch — and beer, of course. And the first run is this weekend!

There is nothing — nothing — I want more on a Sunday morning than a big ol’ plate of chocolate chip pancakes and an equally large mimosa. And maybe a side of veggie sausage, if I’m feeling particularly indulgent. But starting one’s Sunday with a giant plate of carbohydrates and a cup of alcohol isn’t really the best way to, you know, feel good about your decisions. Unless, of course, you run to said plate of carbohydrates and cup of alcohol, burning off calories en route and earning it — er, at least earning a few bites of it. We’re guessing Keith Zonderwyk at Yards Brewing Company had some similar thoughts in mind when he decided to start the #yardsbRUNch running series, which kicks off this Sunday, December 6th.

Here’s the deal: Throughout the winter, now that their monthly happy hour runs across Ben Franklin Bridge are over for the year, the folks from Yards are going to be hosting brunch runs, starting at Yards and ending at a different spot each time for brunch (duh) — and beer, of course. The runs are free to join in on, but you’re responsible for your brunch and beer bill. For now, the only run date that’s set is for the inaugural brunch run this weekend, but Zonderwyk tells me he’s hoping to have #yardsbRUNch happen once every six weeks throughout the winter months, with future runs possibly ending in South Philly, Fairmount and Fishtown.

The first run, which will leave from Yards at 10:30 a.m. this Sunday, will take runners from the brewery on Delaware Avenue to City Tap House in Logan Square — about a three-mile run. Once runners get to City Tap House, they’ll chow down on brunch and rehydrate with $4 Yards pints, on special for the running crew. All you have to do to join in is show up at Yards between 10 and 10:30, ready to pound the pavement.

You can keep an eye out for the running series’ future dates on Yards’ Facebook page. Happy bRUNching!
