Name: Dr. Christine Meyer

Role: Founder of Team CMMD, a nonprofit charity team of runners who run to raise money in the fight against cancer.

Who or what motivates you to be healthy?
My husband and kids, my patients, and my team. I see myself setting an example for so many that feel overwhelmed by the notion of fitness.

Describe a health or fitness related turning point in your life.
After the birth of my third baby: My husband was running consistently and forced me to go out with him once hoping to shake my baby blues. I made it one block that day but did not ever quit since!

What “policy” would you institute to make Greater Philadelphia a healthier region?
I would link physical education to charitable work for our kids. Nothing motivates people (kids too – we have done it) to move more than a cause they are passionate about.

What’s the most important part of your health or fitness regimen?
Sunday Funday Runday. Every Sunday at 7 a.m., my team runs together. Often, we dedicate our runs to cancer warriors. Once, on a 10-degree day, over 75 people showed up for  the Sunday run!

What is your number one piece of health-related advice?
1. Start. 2. Don’t stop. Setbacks happen, but remaining steadfast and keeping small, measurable goals in sight is key.
