Flower Show to Debut New 5K Run (On Closed City Streets!)

Looks like the Philadelphia Flower Show is getting in on the 5K action this spring with a new 3.1-mile fun run planned for Sunday, March 1st.

And while I wouldn’t normally get all that psyched about yet another 5K (It seems like every organization under the sun hosts one these days, am I right?), this one has two fun twists: a closed course (!) that takes you through Market East to Front Street and back to the Flower Show via Chinatown, and a post-run party with free alcohol.

The run begins and ends at the Pennsylvania Convention Center. Runners will head south on 12th to Market, and hang a quick right to get to City Hall. From there, you’ll turn around and run east on Market all the way to Front Street. After heading north for a few blocks, you’ll turn left on Arch and head to back to the Convention Center.

All of this, of course, takes place on car-free streets.

While this isn’t a timed race, every runner will get a finisher’s medal just for participating, and you’ll be invited to join a post-run shindig at the on-site PHS Pop-Up Beer Garden. Runners will be entitled to a free beer or cider.

You can register for the run only ($30), or a run-and-Flower-Show-pass combo entry ($55), which gets you into the main event after the run. There are 500 spots available for this run.

The run starts at 7 a.m. on March 1st, with packet pick-up beginning at 5:30 the same morning. Details and sign-up are here.
