This sweet young gal, currently being fostered by The Monster Milers Adopt a Running Buddy program, is a natural-born runner, and a natural-born cuddler too. That’s just about the perfect makeup, if you ask us. Learn more about her below.

Name: Clara

Location: The Monster Milers Adopt A Running Buddy Foster Program (The success of the Monster Milers’ rescue program — which pairs bright, enthusiastic and loving dogs from our city’s open-intake shelter, ACCT Philly, with active and dedicated foster families until they find their perfect adoptive match — depends on you! If you are interested in fostering, make sure to contact them!)

Breed: Pit bull/terrier mix (Identifying a dog’s breed or mix by looks is less than scientific; The Monster Milers make their best guess!)

Age: 8 months

Weight: 35 pounds

Running style: Long-legged lady Clara has enormous running talent that is obvious, even at her young age! She is simply a natural. After recovering from a little cold she caught during her stay at the shelter under the watchful eye of her marathoner and former veterinary technician foster mom, she’s flourishing as a novice running buddy. Running helps her work on leash manners and bonding with people. She has some truly great advocates while she awaits adoption: her dog foster brother is Monster Milers PAWS Grays Ferry program’s graduate, Pippin “PR Pippy,” and her foster parents are Milers volunteers at the PAWS Adoption Center in Old City themselves!

Why Clara is awesome: Clara found rescue through The Monster Milers’ Adopt A Running Buddy program after being surrendered to the shelter by her family who sadly couldn’t afford to care for her any longer. The Monster Milers are happy they were able to step in, and she’s well on her way to becoming a smart, bright and loving pet. Her playfulness, energy and enthusiasm are all very endearing (so many kisses!), and paired with her stunning looks (those ears!), we’re certain that cuddling with her on the couch with a book and a cup of hot cocoa after a long day of work will be peaceful beyond measure for her adopter.

……………..

We work with The Monster Milers each and every week to profile local running dogs waiting to be adopted. The Monster Milers are a group of runners who help shelter dogs burn off  energy and get much-needed exercise by taking them on runs around the city, and they also just launched their first-of-it’s-kind Adopt a Running Buddy foster program. If you’re not in the market for a pup right now, but would still love to help out homeless dogs, you can always become a Monster Miler volunteer or foster parent. Find out more about how to get started with those processes here
