Philadelphia Runner's Valentine's Day Singles Run

Philadelphia Runner’s Valentine’s Day Singles Run

1. Valentine’s Day Runs
When: Various dates.
Where: Various locations.

Whether you’re single, coupled or just totally cool with running in your underwear (really!), check out our guide to Valentine’s Day-themed runs happening in our area.

2. The Gluten-Free Revolution Dinner at Barbuzzo
When: Monday, February 9th; seatings begin at 6 p.m.
Where: 110 South 13th Street, Midtown Village.

Celebrate the new release of the thoroughly updated, massively comprehensive GF book, The Gluten-Free Revolution, with a special gluten-free dinner at Barbuzzo. The book’s author, Jax Peters Lowell, will be on hand to meet with guests, while Barbuzzo’s kitchen whips up a meal that’s 100 percent gluten-free: gluten-free brioche, pan-seared potato gnocchi, wild mushroom arancini, veal skirt steak and more. Participants will get food and drink pairings, and a copy of the book. It’s $95 a person. Email barbuzzoevents@yahoo.com to make a reservation.

3. Zombie Skate at Rothman Rink
When: Friday, February 13th from 7 to 10 p.m.
Where: Dilworth Park, Philadelphia City Hall.

It’s Halloween in February: Celebrate Friday the 13th with a spooky night of ice skating. A DJ will play scary(ish) tunes while a real live (er, dead?) zombie from Eastern State Penitentiary’s Terror Behind the Walls makes an appearance. It’s $4 for adults and $3 for kids under 11, plus $8 for skate rental.

4. The Chili Run
When: Sunday, February 8th at 10 a.m.
Where: Carolina Blue Restaurant, 692 Lambs Road, Pitman.

Last month’s Chili Run was so popular that organizers added a second date. Runners complete a chilly (get it?) two-mile run and are treated to a piping hot bowl of chili and a beer afterward. There will be post-run music and drink specials at Carolina Blue. Runners also get tech shirts, and awards are given out for top finishers. It’s $35 to participate.

5. Ladies’ Night at Body Cycle Studio and Focus Barre and Yoga
When: Friday, February 13th from 6 to 7:45 p.m.
Where: 1923 Chestnut Street, second floor, Rittenhouse.

How’s this for a fitness mashup? Neighbors Body Cycle Studio and Focus Barre and Yoga are teaming up for a two-part workout. You’ll start with a 30-minute Spin class at BCS, then head down the hall (literally—the studios are on the same floor of the same building) for a 30-minute session of either a barre or yoga class at Focus. It’s $20 for the whole event.

6. Instant Gratification Run
When: Friday, February 6th, beginning at 5:30 p.m.
Where: XFinity Live, 1100 Pattison Avenue, South Philly.

This is probably the easiest run you’ll do all year. Participants will complete exactly 0.0 miles in this race-that’s-really-an-excuse-for-a-party event. After you cross the finish line (there really will be a start and finish line), you’ll head inside for a post-race party with free beer and food, and a DJ and live bands. It’s $35 to participate.

7. Ugly Mudder Seven-Mile Trail Run
When: Sunday, February 22nd at 11 a.m.
Where: Reading Liederkranz German Singing & Sports Club, 140 Spook Lane, Reading.

From the same folks who brought you last month’s Chilly Cheeks trail run, there’s this (and I quote, because their own race description is just so darn perfect): “Like all PCS races, its course has hills, downed logs and debris, rocks and roots, discarded birth control supplies, deer droppings and urban relics along the way. But it ALSO has a few GOOD things as well; a great post race party, funny signs, unusual aide stations, attractive volunteers with low morals, great course markings, a hot breakfast afterwards and other niceties that made this, on several occasions, one of the five largest rustic trail runs in the entire country and the largest East of the Mississippi.” It’s $34 before February 9th and $39 after.

8. Yoga, Movie and Wine Night
When: Friday, February 13th from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m.
Where: Priya Hot Yoga, 1828 Callowhill Street, Fairmount.

The gals at Priya Hot Yoga will lead you through 45 minutes of a slow-moving, thoroughly relaxing Yin yoga before switching gears for a rom com movie night, showing Crazy Stupid Love. Complimentary wine and light snacks will be provided, but feel free to bring your own eats, too. It’s $25 for the whole evening.

9. Endurance Sports Expo
When: Saturday, February 21st and Sunday, February 22nd.
Where: Greater Philadelphia Expo Center, 100 Station Avenue, Oaks.

Runners, cyclists, triathletes and more will be in endurance-sports heaven at this massive expo. From seminars with experts to more than 200 vendor booths to demo opportunities, there’s plenty to soak up to help you prep for this year’s races. It’s $7 for one day or $12 for both.

10. Sushi and Sake Cooking Workshop
When: Thursday, February 26th from 7 to 9:30 p.m.
Where: The Restaurant School at Walnut Hill College, 4207 Walnut Street, West Philly.

You’ll learn once and for all how to make delicious sushi at home. Plus, you’ll sample different kinds of sake to get a feeling for the traditional Japanese rice liquor. It’s $75 to participate.
