Our friends over on Philly Mag’s Property blog just alerted us to some pretty exciting news for the Philly cycling community: It looks like a giant—as in 6,000-seats giant—cycling arena might be coming to South Philly’s FDR Park.

The velodrome, currently named Project 250, still has plenty of hoops to jump through before it gets approved, but if it were to become a reality, the hope is that it would be a prime venue for U.S. and international cycling races. But it wouldn’t simply be a place for professional cyclists: “A running track, bike shop and fitness center are also in talks for the venue,” Property says. Plus, amateur cyclists would be able to purchase paid memberships to use the bike track. Pretty awesome, huh?

Head on over to the Property blog to get all the details on the velodrome—and make sure to check out the crazy-cool renderings of the space, while you’re there.
