Broadcast radio icon Casey Kasem died this week, so it seems fitting to dedicate our workout playlist to his life’s work: the American Top 40 countdown, a radio show he co-founded and hosted for 24 years. Although he passed the torch to Ryan Seacrest in 2004, he continued to make appearances on the show and host spinoffs until his retirement in 2009. In other words, this guy played a lot of music in his day, so today we will do our best to honor his legacy. With music, duh.

The American Top 40 website features archived Top 40 charts through August 2001. I’ve pulled two hours worth of tunes from these archives, so what you have below is basically the most popular, workout-able music of the aughts through today. I think Casey Kasem wouldn’t have had it any other way. And by all means, feel free to crank up the volume and do The Sprain in his honor.

*We update this playlist each and every Friday with a slew of new songs to keep you grooving. Follow it on Spotify so you never miss a beat.
