The Bicycle Coalition just tipped me off to a pretty cool event happening this evening at Shake Shack at 20th and Sansom. The shake-and-burger joint will unveil a new in-street bike corral with parking for up to 14 bikes, a welcome addition to a neighborhood where bike parking can be pretty scarce.

This makes me even happier: The corral, which is actually a series of five lock-up-able modules that can hold two to three bikes a piece (check out the renderings here), features flower boxes in which Shake Shack will plant winter gem boxwoods to match the plants growing on its own roof. Neat! The racks will be installed along the north side of the restaurant.

Tonight, Shake Shack will debut the new bike racks with a launch party from 6 to 8 p.m., featuring complimentary beer from Victory Brewing Company and swag bags filled with bike-appropriate goodness. They’ll also be blending up beer milkshakes using Victory’s Storm King Stout. Getting there by bike is optional but encouraged, natch.
