To Do: Experience the U.S. Open on Independence Mall

Can't make it to the real thing? No problem.

Well, isn’t this special. If you thought you needed to be a member of the Merion Golf Club—or shell out the big bucks—to experience the U.S. Open, then you’ll be happy to know that the U.S. Golf Association has partnered with Philly’s Independence Visitor Center, and boy, do they have quite the event planned for you. Between today and June 16th, Independence Mall will be turned into a self-described golf “extravaganza,” complete with enough interactive activities and memorabilia to please the most hardcore golf fans. And the plus? No khakis or collars necessary.

Monday through Friday, the Visitor Center will be decked out with all-things golf, including educational exhibits and an official merchandise store. Over the weekend, everything will move outdoors to the Mall just in time for Father’s Day (which is, need I remind you, is the 16th). You’ll be able to watch all the golf greats, like Tiger Woods, Ernie Els, and Rory McIlroy, battle it out on the links on a jumbotron screen with live broadcast from the tournament. And clearly, no celebratory golf event is complete without USGA bleacher seating. There will also be an exact replica of the green on Merion’s famous 14th hole (think mini-golf on steroids), or if you would rather brush up on your drive, there will be plenty of simulated playing opportunities at booths all over the mall. FREE, June 10th through 16th, Independence Visitor Center, 1 North Independence Mall, Philadelphia.
