If you’ve never tried rock climbing, I highly recommend it. I took a climbing class back in college and used to belong to a climbing gym when I lived in DC—which is all to say it’s super fun, super challenging and a terrific workout.

Longtime Oaks and Coatesville indoor climbing facility Philadelphia Rock Gyms just opened a new 15,000-square-foot facility at 3500 Scotts Lane in East Falls. It includes bouldering areas, 40 top ropes and lead-climbing routes. The gym officially opened last weekend, so owners are offering special discounts this week to get you in the door. Through Sunday, you can get half off an Intro to Climbing package for you and a friend. Day passes are $15 (typically $18) with free gear rental (costs $7 usually), and everything in the pro shop is 20 percent off. Gym hours are noon to 10 p.m. Monday through Friday and 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on weekends.
