Unite Fitness Launches New Virtual Boot Camp

A new online program by Philly fitness studio Unite Fitness makes personal training super convenient.

Alright, ya’ll. We’re 108 days out from the official start of summer—that means you have 15 weeks to get your butt into shape. If you’d like to head into bikini season with more body confidence than you’ve had since high school (wouldn’t that be awesome?), I’ve got an idea: virtual boot camp.

Philly’s own Unite Fitness (a.k.a. Gayborhood personal-training studio Fusion Cross-training, which rebranded last fall, hence the new name) has started offering an online boot camp. The brainchild of owner Gavin McKay, the program is designed by Unite’s fitness and nutrition team and includes four prescribed weekly workouts, focusing on endurance, strength and power, as well as eating challenges, goal planning, a food journal and more. Participants have four months to complete the 12-week program, so there’s some wiggle room if you get off track. It includes weekly emails with instructions and motivation from McKay and his team, as well as access to a private Facebook group where you and your fellow boot campers can post updates about your experience.

The nice thing is, you can complete the workouts at your pace wherever is convenient. With the right equipment (McKay offers his recommendations at the start of the program), you can even do the program at home; a gym, of course, also works. Detailed instructions are available for each workout, or you can bring along a smartphone or tablet to watch video demos and hear audio instructions as you go. Every workout includes a printable log that you can fill out to track your progress on time and reps. And you’ll be asked to take your measurements at the beginning, as well as a “before” picture, so you can follow your transformation with cold hard data.

The program’s first run is currently under way with almost 50 members. The spring session begins on March 18th; you have to be signed up before it starts to participate, in order to keep everyone on the same schedule. If you plan to do it, sign up sooner rather than later. There are a few prep steps that you have to complete (measurements, goal planning, equipment-gathering, etc.), and it’s best to get them out of the way beforehand.

Unite Fitness’s next Virtual Boot Camp runs from March 18th through June 9th. It costs $149 for the program, but there’s a special discount price available now for $99. Sign up here.
