Green Greatness: The Best Green Juice in Philly

Our editors wanted to find the tastiest green juice in Philly, so they did a blind taste-test—and got their yearly intake of kale in the process.

Jar Bar’s Clean (Green is the Way)
The good stuff: Kale, cucumber, celery, romaine, spinach.
Price: $5.50.
Prep time: Made fresh to order.
Where to get it: 113 South 12th Street, Philadelphia, 215-923-1600; jarbar.com.
Editors say: Way too watery and zero flavor, except maybe grossness—and a little celery.

Lithe Method’s Greenie
The good stuff: Kale, cucumber, celery, apple, lemon.
Price: $7.
Prep time: Made every morning, with a “fridge life” of three days.
Where to get it: Multiple locations; lithemethod.com.
Editors say: Like a citrusy cider, but too sour to take more than a few sips.

Pangaea Earth Foods’ Ageless
The good stuff: Dark kale, cucumber, apple, parsley, lemon.
Price: $9.
Prep time: Made every morning, with a “fridge life” of three days.
Where to get it: Multiple locations; pangaeaearthfoods.com.
Editors say: Bright and gingery, with a pulpy consistency. Good at first sip, but why do our mouths taste like cologne?

WINNER: Ryan Crown’s Juice Club’s Lemon Ginger Blast
The good stuff: Cucumber, celery, ginger, arugula, parsley, cilantro, habanero, apple, lemon.
Price: $5.50.
Prep time: Made fresh to order.
Where to get it: 1425 Arch Street, Philadelphia, 215-519-8935; facebook.com/rcjuiceclub. Also available for delivery.
Editors say: Strong celery flavors with a kick of lemon, but there’s something sweet in the aftertaste—somehow, it works.
