New Farmers’ Market Now Open in Center City

Find fresh fruits and veggies and delicious looking baked goods at 19th and Market on Thursdays

Have some time to burn on your lunch break? Check out the new IBC Farmers’ Market, the result of a collaboration between Independence Blue Cross and Farm to City, which opened last week and will pop-up every Thursday this summer and fall from 11:00 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. in the courtyard at Blue Cross headquarters at 1901 Market Street. The local fare is good for the environment, the local economy, and you, says Sumit Sethi, IBC manager of associate wellness. (Our own health coach agrees.)

At the moment, the selection includes various seasonal vegetables, fresh-picked berries and other fruits as well as natural baked goods from Brulee Bakery and honey. The market is slated to remain through the summer into the autumn, so expect to see corn soon as well as apples, squash, and pumpkins in the (very) distant future.

Farm to City is a Philly-based program with the goal to unite the entire community, families, and farmers year-round through good locally grown food. They hope to connect the city to the rest of the region by making local, healthy products available to all.
