Celeb Pulse: Paula Deen Learns Portion Control (We Hope)

The Hollywood health and fitness gossip we're buzzing about this week

Paula Deen Reduces Daily Biscuit Quota, Loses “About” 30 Pounds, Feels Fabulous, Y’all. Since she went public with her diabetes diagnosis back in January, Paula Deen has doubled her usual vegetable/salad intake and limited her carbs. “Once in a while you can eat two biscuits—you just can’t do it every day three times a day,” she told ET. Because you gotta save room for the gravy, duh. [ET Online]

Baywatch Star Gena Lee Nolin Starts Facebook Page Called ‘Thyroid Sexy.’ For more than a decade, Gena Lee Nolin had unknowingly been suffering from Hashimoto’s disease, a postpartum complication in which the immune system attacks and destroys the thyroid. She suffered extreme weight changes (10 pounds a day—in a bikini?!), hair loss, and heart palpitations for years before doctors figured it out. She has gone public about her struggles to create awareness about the disease, so perhaps other suffers won’t have to wait quite as long to figure out what’s going on with their bodies. [Fox News]

Skinny Celebs Make Miranda Lambert Hungry. “I see them and think, ‘Honey, you need to eat!’ I’m lucky I don’t have to live like that.” That makes two of us. The newlywed country singer opened up in the June issue of Self about 15 things she’ll never be sorry for—her weight is one of them. “I don’t mind having a big butt,” she says. She feels healthiest at a toned size 8 and isn’t afraid to flaunt her assets. As for other non-apologies: “I drink Bacardi. My trainer, Bill, approves. I mean, he’d rather me not drink, but that’s not an option.” I think we’d be friends. [People]

Idol Finalist Phillip Phillips Ignores Doctors, Delays Surgery, Risks Health for Chance to Win It All. A doctor for American Idol contestant Phillip Phillips (great name) urged the singer to get immediate kidney surgery after his kidney problems took a turn for the worse this spring, but he refused to do so until after the show’s finale, which aired yesterday. This guy must have an extremely high pain tolerance: Since October, he’s had five kidney stones removed (ouch). His kidney condition causes dry mouth, effecting his singing. [Us Weekly]

Alanis Morissette Will Be Breast-Feeding Her Kid for a While. You oughta know that Alanis Morissette has no apologies for joining the attachment-parenting debate sparked by TIME earlier this month. Morissette, who was at one time all about being on her own, is now firmly attached to he son, Ever Imre. (Isn’t it ironic?) (Don’t ya think?) Morissette revealed that she’s still breastfeeding her 16-month old son and will continue to do so until for awhile (perhaps at age 5 or 6, if she’s lucky). [Celebrity Health & Fitness]
