Spend Labor Day at Taproom on 19th

From Foobooz: On Saturday, Tap Room on 19th is hosting an End Of Summer Block Party and Crab-Fest with Maryland Blue Claws, kielbasa, burgers, hot dogs, corn, potatoes and more. The fun kicks off at 1 p.m. Little Nonna's is having spaghetti and crab night on Sunday and Labor Day. Little Nonna's will be opening at 3 p.m. each day and offering a $35 dinner that will include the spaghetti and crab plus summer salad and garlic bread for the table. More here.

Labor Day and the unofficial end of summer is staring us in the face. But at Taproom on 19th, that unofficial end does come with a Old Bay dusted lining.

The South Philadelphia bar will be hosting a Labor Day Crab Fest and BBQ on Monday, September 5th.  There will be Maryland Blue Claw crabs, brisket, ribs, pulled pork, basically everything you could ever want or need out of a barbecue all made by owner Michael Strauss’ side project, Mike’s BBQ. There will also be some Maryland beers on tap like Stillwater, DuClaw and Heavy Seas as well as local favorites.

Chef Geno Betz Returns to Stateside

Stateside is welcoming back an old face, chef Geno Betz. Betz left the position of sous chef at Stateside in 2013. In the meantime, he hopped from The Mildred to Paridiso to the recently closed Farm and Fisherman.

But, as of Wednesday, August 10th, he is back in the kitchen at Stateside as the executive chef with a brand new menu. The rotating cheeses and oysters will remain, but there will be a new focus on smaller snacks and shareable plates. And a new prix fixe option allows couples to share snacks, a plate for two and dessert for $65.

The  Saint Benjamin’s Tap Room will now offering a full cocktail menu. All spirits will be sourced locally, and they will also be serving local wines and mead too. If you haven’t been keeping up, craft distilling is booming and here in Philly we have some of the very best.

Princeton Restaurant Opening New Location at King of Prussia Mall

Everyday there seems to be fresh news of more stores and restaurants coming to the King of Prussia Mall expansion. The newest one is pretty exciting.

Princeton-based restaurant Mistral will be opening a new 3,700-square-feet restaurant at the entrance of the mall, between Neiman Marcus and Lord & Taylor. Headed up by executive chef Scott Anderson, the restaurant has a rotating seasonal menu focused on local ingredients.

Wahlburgers Is Now Open in Northern Liberties

The Wahlburgers food truck has been making its rounds in Philly for the past year. The concept was brought to Philly by the Wahlberg brothers, Mark, Donnie, and Paul. Their fast casual burgers and hot dogs have been popping up all over the country (and even in Canada). Here in Philly, we’ve had to settle for chasing their truck all over the city.

But now their brick-and-mortar restaurant is open at Schmidt’s Commons (formerly the Piazza) on Second Street in Northern Liberties.

And though the Wahlburgers team would not confirm a grand opening date or if the Wahlbergs will be making an appearance, we have a feeling they’ll be coming to town.

Special Bubbly Happy Hour at Wm. Mulherin’s Sons

The happiest of all hours is going to be a little happier this week. Tomorrow, Tuesday, August 9th, Wm. Mulherin’s Sons will be hosting a happy hour from from 5 to 7 p.m. This time the theme is bubbles.

Yup, you read that right, bubbles. They will have just about everything sparkling, from franciacorta, contratto, and cava to prosecco and pignoletto. All glasses will be $9. And chef Chris Painter will be making snacks to pair with the sips.

The Fat Ham is coming to the King of Prussia Mall

King of Prussia‘s expansion is only two weeks away from their projected opening on Thursday, August 18th.  With over 50 new stores and restaurants to explore, this addition is truly huge. Obviously, here at Foobooz we are most excited about the new Savor King of Prussia area, which is where some old favorites and newcomers will be opening up restaurants in the expansion.

We’ve rounded up the new spots below. They are all expected to open on August 18th and be open regular mall hours (10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Saturday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday).
