Bridal Blogger Carly: What’s Next—and Goodbye!

Bridal Blogger Carly: What’s Next—and Goodbye!

Carly, Sean & friends and family on their wedding day.

I have written and re-written the first sentence of my final blog a number of times. And while it’s cliché to say it’s also true: I just don’t know where to start.

Sean and I have been married for 41 days, and while I’d like to say that we’ve been in a haze of wedded bliss since June 29th, it’s been a such a whirlwind we have barely been able to enjoy it.

Bridal Blogger Carly: Our Honeymoon on Great Exuma Island

Bridal Blogger Carly: Our Honeymoon on Great Exuma Island

Carly and Sean at their engagement party.

After a whirlwind wedding weekend, Sean and I were excited to board our plane for our honeymoon to Great Exuma Island in the Bahamas that following Monday. The cab picked us up at our apartment that morning, and off to the airport we went. The weather wasn’t great, a little rainy, but we expected no delays and to be sitting on the beach by lunchtime. Boy, were we wrong!

To make a long story short, our plane was delayed getting into Philly, causing us to miss our connecting flight out of Ft. Lauderdale. This was a big problem because that connector was the only one of the day. Frustrated and unwilling to waste our day in Ft. Lauderdale, we were given the option to take a 40 minute cab ride to Miami’s airport where we’d board a flight to Nassau and then another to Great Exuma. We found our bags and jumped into a cab to Miami, without hesitation.

Bridal Carly: Our Wedding Day! (With Photos!)

Carly and Sean, walking back up the aisle as husband and wife!

It’s been almost a year since I began writing this blog about planning my wedding. After these last months of looking at venues, selecting invitations, a band, photographer, song, and so-so-so much more, Sean and I are finally married! And since I shared all of the details of our planning with you, I hope you’ll enjoy reading this entry about how it all came together!

I woke up on the morning of June 29th to sunshine streaming into the windows of my sister’s Old City apartment. After seven days of rain and thunderstorms, the sky was a clear blue and the sun was bright. “Happy wedding day, Sissy!” Claire chirped as I opened my eyes.

Bride-to-be Blogger Carly: Reflecting On the Past Year With Thanks

Bride-to-be Blogger Carly: Reflecting On the Past Year With Thanks

Carly and Sean at their engagement party.

Today I write my 43rd and final pre-wedding blog. I feel very emotional as I write this, because today marks the end of the wedding-planning experience and is the eve of the beginning of a new chapter in my life.

The last year has been incredible and I have a lot of thank-yous to say for that. I’m grateful to Philadelphia Wedding for helping me document this experience. Not only will I have my memories, but a weekly log of my feelings and experiences, which I can look back on and hopefully share with my future children. I am also so incredibly grateful for my family and Sean’s. The love and support we’ve gotten from them has been amazing and the help they’ve given us, especially over the last few weeks of wedding prep, has been more than I could have asked for. I also want to thank my friends for being so sweet and wonderful. From listening to me talk endlessly about my wedding to helping me prepare for the Big Day and throwing me some awesome celebrations along the way, I couldn’t have gotten to this day (feeling as ready as I do) without you.

Bride-to-be Blogger Carly: Overwhelmed By Last-Minute Planning

Ok, I am just going to come right out and say it: I’m stressed. T-minus one week until our rehearsal, but it’s hard for me to see the light at the end of the tunnel while I’m feeling buried under a seemingly never-ending pile of to-dos.

While there have been some overwhelming days leading up to this week, none of them compare to the consistent stress I’ve been feeling the last few days. Now, I don’t want to come off as negative here—some of this stress is healthy and necessary to keep me motivated to get everything done in the next seven days. However, I think it’s important to be honest with you and encourage you to enjoy your wedding-planning lulls when you can.

A package arrived for Sean a week ago. I knew what was inside based on the shipping label, and couldn’t wait for him to get home and open it. When Sean walked in the door I excitedly handed him the large envelope, encouraging him to open it immediately. He ripped open the seal and took out the envelope’s contents. “Try it on!” I begged.

A few minutes later Sean was wearing the sexiest thing I’d ever seen. I stood in front of him, swooning, and told him that I couldn’t wait for him to wear it everyday! What was it, you ask? If your mind went to the gutter, get it out—it isn’t anything like that! It was his wedding band.

With just a few short weeks until our Big Day, things are getting very busy in the Day-Meluney apartment. Just one look at our kitchen table, covered in half-written thank-you notes, stacks of RSVP cards, versions of ceremony programs, and a very daunting to-do list, illustrates the chaos I am feeling at this point in time.

Don’t tell my boss, but I’ve been spending downtime at work making phone calls, sending emails, and trying to get everything in order for the wedding. Right now it all seems never-ending, except it is—on June 29th, ready or not, I am getting married!

The latest project that’s been occupying my time has been finding the perfect gift for bridesmaids, groomsmen, and our parents. Sean and I both appreciate the help and support we’ve felt from this group of people and it’s important to us that we thank them, not only with words, but with thoughtful gifts to remember this experience.

Bride-to-be Blogger Carly: My Bachelorette Party!

Bride-to-be Blogger Carly: My Bachelorette Party!

Bachelorette Carly!

Last weekend was Memorial Day weekend, the three days that Shore lovers such as myself look forward to every summer. It’s quite possibly the best weekend of the year. But this year’s Memorial Day in particular was extra fabulous because not only was it my favorite weekend of the year, but also my bachelorette party!

Initially, when my bridesmaids started asking what I wanted to do for my bachelorette, I’d immediately thought: Atlantic City, location of many fun nights while I was in college. But my sister (and maid of honor) had a better plan: “Let’s cram everyone into our shore house in Stone Harbor,” she persuaded. “We’ll rent a party bus and it’ll be so much fun!”  I was a little skeptical at first, worrying about how we’d all fit into our two-bedroom, one bathroom house, but I trusted my sister and bridesmaids to throw a great party, so I agreed to a Memorial Day-Bachelorette extravaganza at our shore house.

Bride-to-be Blogger Carly: Another Surprise Shower!

Bride-to-be Blogger Carly: Another Surprise Shower!

Carly and her girlfriends at her surprise shower.

Last Saturday night, Sean and I had plans to go out to dinner with his sister Rachel and her husband Colby to celebrate Rachel’s birthday. Rachel and Colby live in Delaware and were planning to come up to Philly for a night out. However, late Saturday afternoon Sean got a call from seven-months pregnant Rachel to say she wasn’t feeling up for the trip and that we should plan to celebrate another time. I was disappointed, as I love going out to dinner with them, but understood that between the threatening weather and her not feeling great, we’d literally need to take a rain check.

Luckily, we had back-up plans. My best friend Jill had planned a BBQ for Saturday night, which I’d thought we were going to miss because of our dinner plans. After Rachel and Colby cancelled, I immediately texted Jill to let her know we’d be coming over.

Bride-to-be Blogger Carly: Our Engagement Anniversary!

Bride-to-be Blogger Carly: Our Engagement Anniversary!

Sean and Carly on their engagement day.

A year and five days ago, Sean asked me a question that changed my life: “Will you marry me?”

And while there are some obvious changes that will come along with the wedding (new marital status, new last name, new ring!) there have been a lot of unexpected things that have happened since last May 12th. I guess what I’m trying to say is: a lot can happen in a year!
