Merry with Sherry at Jet Wine Bar

Some wines are just misunderstood. Does that mean we should stash them in the back of our liquor cabinets or give them away at office parties to that secret santa we’re not really friendly with? No, it means we should try and understand them.

On Tuesday, December 11th, Jet Wine Bar is helping us understand the likes of sherry, one of these misunderstood gems, through an installment of their Global Vineyards Passport Tasting Series. From 6:30 p.m.-8:30 p.m., guests can enjoy an educational tasting of sherry with Spanish wine expert Eric Lopez. $25 gets you the class, small bites and a 15% discount off the post-class bar tab.

The Saint James Starts Weekend Brunch Service

On Saturdays and Sundays beginning at 11 a.m., the Saint James will be serving up brunch. While its tempting to stay cozied up at home on weekends, you should probably roll out of bed because these new offerings will put your bowl of cereal to shame. The brunch features classic fare as well as flatbreads, sandwiches, soups and salads.

Standouts include a Challah French Toast with maple syrup and cinnamon apples and an Asparagus &  Crab Egg White Omelet. Round out your meal with hearty sides like cheddar biscuits and Lancaster ham.  And to wash down this new brunch fare? Try sipping one of their new brunch cocktails like the Grapefruit Sparkler with sparkling wine, grapefruit and Campari. Sounds like your weekends about to get that much more delicious. Don’t worry, it’s already Friday. Only 24 hours until you can test it for yourself.

Latkepalooza and More Spots for Latke Goodness

When Hanukkah time rolls around, we all get excited about different things. For some its the presents, for others the holiday spirit, for many the coming together of the family, but for me, its all about the food. Fried food, to be exact. Hanukkah is an eight night excuse to indulge in fried anything and everything, most traditionally the latke. Whether its made with potatoes, zucchini, or sweet potato, and topped with apple sauce, sour cream or a fruity chutney, the possibilities are endless.

For a full guide of where to eat Latkes in Philly, check out the Jewish Exponent’s comprehensive list. And if your like us and just can’t get enough of the fritters, don’t miss the 8th Annual Latkepalooza, this Sunday, December 9th. Some of your favorite Philly hot spots will be doling out their own creative versions of latkes. The line up includes Citron and Rose, Bar Ferdinand, Federal Donuts, Sabrina’s Café, Delicatessen, Estia, Singapore Chinese Kitchen, Talula’s Garden and Tashan. The event will take place at the Gershman Y from 2-4 p.m., and tickets are $15 for adults and $5 for kids.
