The Roots on the Parkway

Since selecting Sheryl Crow as the sole headliner for this year's Independence Day concert on the Parkway, the organizers must have realized they needed a bit of local flair, so they tapped Philadelphia powerhouse The Roots to perform. The local favorites will probably outshine the country-pop stalwart before the always-oversized fireworks display lights up the night sky.

Free Kayak Program

Mayor Nutter has announced the creation of a new free kayaking program designed to introduce the sport to more Philadelphians. It will be based out of Penn's Landing and offer opportunities to learn to kayak under the watchful eye of trained specialists.
