Ticket Alert: The Kimmel's 2008-2009 Season

Our guide to high- (and low-) lights of the Kimmel's new season.

This Monday at 10 a.m., the Kimmel Center releases tickets to the general public (i.e., those who do not subscribe) for all 2008-2009 Kimmel Center Presents shows and for some of the Broadway at the Academy Series. For the complete season, visit the Kimmel's website. Here are some high- (and low-) lights. 

STILL BLACK, STILL PROUD: AN AFRICAN TRIBUTE TO JAMES BROWN. Cheikh Lo of Senegal and Vieux Farka Touré of Mali are guest artists in this tribute organized by veteran Brown band mates Pee Wee Ellis and Fred Wesley. August 21, 2008

NEW YORK PHILHARMONIC. Conductor Lorin Maazel's final tour as music director of the country’s oldest orchestra. October 3, 2008

AN EVENING WITH JOAN BAEZ. Baez has meant a lot of things to a lot of people: musicians, activists, politicians, Bob Dylan and so forth. If that’s not enough to convince you, she also just so happened to win the 2007 Lifetime Achievement Award from the National Academy of Recording Arts & Sciences. October 26, 2008

THE WIZARD OF OZ. A play. Complete with flying monkeys, we're told. November 28-30, 2008

LEGALLY BLONDE: THE MUSICAL. Is the idea that it's not a joke that they've made a play out of this slightly more than depressing? Oh yes it is. December 2-7, 2008

RADIO STORIES & OTHER STORIES: AN EVENING WITH IRA GLASS. You’ve heard the man with the award-winning voice coming over the airwaves; now see him in the flesh the when the host and producer of This American Life comes to the Kimmel. January 24, 2009

AN EVENING WITH STEPHEN SONDHEIM AND FRANK RICH. The living Broadway legend that is Stephen Sondheim comes to the stage along with New York Times columnist and former theater critic Frank Rich for an evening of candid conversation about Sondheim’s career. February 21, 2009

BANG ON A CAN ALL-STARS WITH GLENN KOTCHE. The idea of banging on cans is promising. Having a chance to see Wilco’s Glenn Kotche involved in this activity makes it even more so. February 28, 2009

JAZZ AT LINCOLN CENTER ORCHESTRA WITH WYNTON MARSALIS. The legendary jazz trumpeter and composer Wynton Marsalis plays Verizon Hall, and shame on you if you miss it. March 20, 2009

HAPPY DAYS: A NEW MUSICAL. If you thought the Fonz was dead, buried under a wealth of discarded paraphernalia and broken jukeboxes, think again. He’s back. And he’s singing. March 24-29, 2009
