The Weekender: Diamond, Dumplings, and the (Pennsylvania) Dutch

Cool things to do this weekend

By Victor Fiorillo

What? You haven’t heard? You somehow missed all of the television ads? No, I’m not talking about the Beijing Olympics. I’m talking about Mr. Neil Diamond, whose second “due to popular demand” show at the Wachovia has plenty of tickets left, including some for just $16.50 ...

Other musical legends in the area include Bob Dylan at the Electric Factory (utterly sold out), Chaka Khan at the Borgata (not sold out), and, a legend-in-some-circles, ’50s rocker Charlie Gracie at the new JC Dobbs ...

Back to the Olympics, Chinatown gets even more congested tonight as they shut down the streets for the Evening of Champions, featuring kung fu demos, lion dancing, and NBC 10’s coverage of the Opening Ceremonies. Don’t forget to stock up on dumplings from David’s at 1001 Race ...

For a little family wholesomeness, try the Delaware County 4-H Fest in Newtown Square, the Dutch Fest at Reading Terminal (neurotic parents will want to bring some anti-bacterial stuff because there is a petting zoo) or Frog Weekend at the Zoo ...

If you’re up the Bucks County way and are vehicularly inclined, there’s the New Hope Auto Show ...

And if theatrically inclined, you can’t do better than Shakespeare’s R & J at the Adrienne. Of course, there’s virtually no theater going on right now to compare it to. But no, really, it’s a great show, says our theater critic.
