Top 10 Places to Ski Near Philly

Grab a friend (or two or three) and hit the slopes for a day of fun (and a killer workout, too!)

Distance from Philly: About 100 miles
This Pocono ski resort is the companion mountain of nearby Big Boulder. It has 20 trails and a terrain park, beginner through expert, 100 skiable acres, a 600-foot vertical, and 10 chairlifts. Snow tubing also is available, with eight chutes (singles and doubles) and four lifts.

Distance from Philly: About 90 miles
You’ll find a 600-foot vertical drop, 10 lifts, and 16 trails, as well as snowtubing. Keep an eye out for weekly specials on lift tickets, lessons and equipment (such as ladies only, men only, military discounts, homeschool days and college days). The experienced instructors at Ski Roundup are devoted to each student, and the First Class Learn to Ski and Snowboard program was rated number one in the country by the National Ski Area Association.

Blue Mountain: 1660 Blue Mountain Drive, Danielsville, 610-826-7700
Distance from Philly: 75 miles
Blue Mountain is located in Eastern Pennsylvania, one hour north of Philadelphia, with the greatest vertical in the state, 1,082 feet. It has 34 trails, four terrain parks, and a Big AirBag, with all terrain lighted for night skiing. Trails are serviced by nine lifts, including a high-speed detachable six-seater and quad lifts. Hone your skills in one of the three Learning Centers, one serviced by a triple chair. Or, snowtube on 19 slides and three tow lifts.

Bear Creek Mountain: 101 Doe Mountain Lane, Macungie, 1-866-SKIATBC
Distance from Philly: About 57 miles
Located on more than 330 acres in Berks County, Bear Creek Mountain boasts 21 trails that will keep every level of skier or boarder entertained. Newbies will enjoy the expanded beginner area complete with a carpet lift and triple chair and pros will be challenged on “Sasquatch,” a black diamond trail with a 50 percent slope. There’s also a complimentary Ski Check at the base of the mountain.

Distance from Philly: About 35 miles
About an hour’s drive from Philadelphia, Spring Mountain has been a favorite of skiing families since 1963. Skiers and boarders alike will love the terrain park, half-pipe, and eight trails, one of which boasts a vertical of 420 feet. Perfect your skill at the Ski and Snowboard School, or try out one of the two tubing runs. (There’s also a canopy tour, rock climbing and GEO Caching, a high-tech treasure hunting game played throughout the world by adventure seekers equipped with GPS devices.)
