Dressers — which my family calls bureaus — were never my favorite furnishings. Give me a nubby Knoll sofa, a sleek marble coffee table, an antique trunk, and I’ll see the attraction. But the everyday dresser — site of single socks and passports, landing pad for cosmetics and costume jewelry — always seemed out of place in my bedroom aesthetic. Until now.

Philadelphia eco-furniture designer Michael Iannone has come up with a minimalist chest that seems to rise straight out of the hardwood floor, mimicking the floor’s variegations via drawers of locally sourced maple or sycamore — which can be swapped according to your mood. Of which I have many, I can assure you. Iannone Design, 162 West Lehigh Avenue, Philadelphia, 856-889-7307, iannonedesign.com
