Got Cereal?

Cereal comes out of the kitchen cabinets at Cereality (3631 Walnut Street; 215-222-1162), a 1,500-square-foot homage to the best of the sugar-coated breakfast staple. The cereal bar and café hit University City last month with slogans like: “95% of Americans like cereal. 57% like sex. We’ve got cereal.” The cartoon-bright café aims for a “your own kitchen” vibe — farm tables, upholstered chairs and pajama-wearing waitstaff — and the menu of cereals, cereal bars and cereal smoothies is nostalgic, full of creations seemingly concocted at third-grade slumber parties. There’s the “Cinnamon-Oh-Man” bar, with Cinnamon Life, dried apples, raisins and almonds, and “Devil Made Me Do It,” a bowl of Cocoa Puffs and Lucky Charms made magically delicious with chocolate milk and malt balls. And if you haven’t been cuckoo for Cocoa Puffs since elementary school, there are look-Mikey-likes-it combinations like “Life Experience” (Life cereal with sliced almonds, bananas and honey) and a menu of 30-plus cereals (Honey Nut Cheerios, Froot Loops, Quaker oatmeal), 30-plus toppings (honey, raisins, Reese’s Pieces), and three types of milk, for total personalization. All options are available in a milk-proof plastic carton ($2.95) — or dry, in a brightly colored multiple-serving box, should you feel the unhip urge to eat your cereal at home.
