Swede and Easy Holiday Decorating

Table tips from IKEA’s former set designer

By Christina Lumbris

It's time to impress the in-laws and out-of-town guests, and IKEA will help you prove that you, too, can host a fabulous holiday dinner. "Setting the Holiday Table,” a workshop at the South Philly store today and Friday, features Sharne Algotsson's picks and tips for decorating the dinner table (with IKEA merchandise, of course). As former set designer for the international IKEA catalog and current owner of Philadelphia's Twist, Algotsson boasts the credentials to support her suggestions. Some of the latest holiday motifs include a traditional Swedish look and an American gold and silver theme. Products include fifty-cent garland, $4 ornaments and $2 candles, so you'll still have money left for those gifts. IKEA can only take you so far to earn some hosting recognition — you're on your own with the cooking.

Free; 1 p.m., 3 p.m. and 5 p.m., November 30th and December 1st; ikea.com.
