Right-Now Recipe: Green Day Martini

The coolest cocktail to create at home.

By Bridget Salmons

It’s hard not to get swept up in the creative cocktail wave washing over the city. One of our favorites, the Green Day Martini at Table 31, recently came off the menu. Our source tells us it will be back on in a couple of weeks, but why wait? We’ve got the recipe for this refreshing cucumber-infused gin martini.

3 slices cucumber
1 tsp. simple syrup (equal parts sugar and water)
2 oz. Hendrick’s gin
1 oz. Sweet and Sour Mix (available at your area Wine & Spirits Shoppe)
Ice

In a cocktail shaker, muddle cucumber with simple syrup. Add gin and sour mix. Fill with ice, shake and strain into martini glass. Serves 1.

3 SISTERS CAFE IN FOX CHASE, PHILLY

COMMENT:
I'd like to let you know about our cozy cafe in Fox Chase, Philly - see articles on web by City Paper, Fox Chase Reading Series, and a fabulous independent food critic. It is quaint, colorful, staff is extremely accommodating, but the gourmet food is fabulous. Almost every item is hand made from scratch by the 3 Sisters and an aunt, named Aunt Gertrude. We don't make a tremendous amount of money so we can't afford to advertise, but I promise you that you would love it. It is a nice place in the community of Fox Chase to come and relax, enjoy great food and great coffee libations! Unfortunately, we are still the best kept secret in Fox Chase but we really need more exposure to survive. Please come to see us and check us out. We are participating in the upcoming National Night Out in Fox Chase on August 5th - free mini scones and iced coffees to everyone! Thank you for your time. Pat

COMMENT:
XIX (nineteen) at the park hyatt center city makes a similar drink with fresh mint, lime, cucumber and hendricks. It sounded a little odd to me, but try it - it's surprisingly good. especially for the summer time.
