Snapshot: Cocoa Buffs

By Amy Strauss

Where: John & Kira’s gourmet artisan chocolates in Feltonville.

What: Some of the 4,000 pounds of chocolates being prepared for Valentine’s Day. “Our products are handmade and take about a week and a half to make,” says John Doyle, co-owner with his wife, Kira Baker-Doyle. “We can only make so much at a time.”

Where you can pick some up: John and Kira don’t have a retail shop yet; most orders are via phone (215-324-9222) and johnandkiras.com. But some products can be found at Jonathan’s Best at the Chestnut Hill Farmers Market and the Pennsylvania General Store at Reading Terminal Market.

Why Williams-Sonoma and Martha Stewart are fans: Because of the new chocolate-dipped Spanish figs and hand-painted ladybug chocolates.

What John’s getting Kira for Valentine’s Day: “Definitely not chocolate.”
