Spring training often nets good stories, but how players get there usually isn’t one of them. While Pat Burrell showed up in a tricked-out Hummer, the MVP award for commuting goes to Jimmy Rollins, who loaded his silver Mercedes CLS55 AMG (estimated price tag: a hundred grand) onto an Amtrak auto train for the 16-hour ride from Virginia to Florida. Rollins didn’t tell teammates why he chose the rails. He didn’t sing, “Baby, you can drive my car” to them, either.
