Top Doctors?

I would like to know how the Top Doctors are chosen. I am a physician practicing in Philadelphia for 28 years. I have never been surveyed nor have any of the physicians that I have asked been surveyed regarding the Top Doc's articles. You should also publish details of the survey including how many physicians were polled and from which specialty areas they represent. If only a select group of physicians are polled then the results of the survey are questionable.

I am very, very surprised Hahnemann Hospital was even mentioned in this magazine. As a patient at this hospital, I spent over 8 hours in the emergency waiting room as I was slowly dying from perotinitis and septic poisoning. Not only that, but the nursing care was horrible. I am disgusted that this horrible hospital was ranked so high on the chart...because that give me no hope for better healthcare in Philly.

Bogus Top Doctor Yearly Listings....

It is well known that whether it be the "Philadelphia Magazine" or "Main Line" Top Doctors, etc... it all has to do with who pays for advertising and basically publicity... Not who is really the top doctor or hospital per say... I have been to many sucky doctors I found in these magazines before. My friend's father died at the hands of one on the day he was being released from the hospital - this doctor made a careless mistake following a very routine surgery. He finally did so with another patient, whose family raised hell and has since lost his license. I'd never trust these magazines again. It's is a disgrace that these even exist. I heard the Castle Connelly lists are the only true guides on yearly top doctors, but then how they rate them I think is just based on fellow doctor support - not on any of the real technical aspects relative to the job and numbers etc... This info should be public knowledge and really what you base whether or not you want to see a doctor on... You really

I was diagnosed with myelodysplastic syndrome 1 1/2 years ago. Two of my doctors, Jack Goldberg and Jay Kostman, are included on this list. I cannot give enough praise for these 2 doctors, they certainly are the best of the best. I am so glad I had read a past issue of Top Docs and found Dr. Goldberg.

Some Doctors Only See The Rich & The Famous

I tried many times to get an appt w/Dr. Balderston of 3B Orthopedics at PA Hospital 8th & Spruce and was not allowed to get an appt w/him. I was told that I had to see a surgeon that did my spine surgery in 2004. It is 2010 and why am I told that I must see the last surgeon? It is not for the same problem even though it is my spine. I was told it is Dr. Protocol. Well, I have a protocols that I don't want to be forced to see a Dr. not of my choosing. Does Dr. Balderston only see the rich or famous? Why does PA hospital ask us to fax in our MRI or CT Scan to them before we can ask for a certain Dr?
