Philadelphia Magazine’s Fitness Challenge 2010: Jim Schindler

A 39-year-old sign-equipment salesman and self-proclaimed fast-food junkie. “The only thing I like better than bacon is cheese-covered bacon.”

 THURSDAY, JANUARY 28
I feel pretty good today and I am eating better and drinking a lot of water. I’m not sore anymore. Walked on the treadmill for 20 minutes before taking a spin class. I found the class to be hard but I felt great after.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 29
Early-morning workout on legs and abs today. This was very difficult because of spin class last night. Today I am very tired and my legs are sore. Chris told me to stretch and let my body recover tomorrow. Hopefully I will feel good enough to run on the treadmill tomorrow or tomorrow night. Continuing to eat the diet and I try to read every package to monitor calories.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 30
Day of rest today on the exercise.  Chris wanted to give me a day to recover.  I felt a bit wiped out by the workout Friday after Thursday’s spin class.  I will be back on the treadmill tomorrow.  I tried to maintain a healthy diet today.  For the most part I was fine, but I was hungry all day.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 31
45 minutes of cardio today.  I am fine today.  I’ve managed to cut back of soft drinks.  Before this, I would drink 8-12 Diet Cokes per day.  Now I drink one.

WEEK 2
Monday, February 1st – February 7th

MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1
One-hour workout this morning with Chris.  We worked on arms and I did a little bit of cardio after my workout.  I am settling into my diet, trying to find things that I like so that I’m sacrificing nothing.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2
I met with the dietician today.  We spoke for about an hour about changing the individual items on my menus so that I am minimizing the amount of calories that I am eating.  We also talked about serving size because sometimes my serving size and the suggested serving size differ.  Ran for 35 minutes on the treadmill tonight.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3
Another one-hour morning session with Chris today.  While working out, he shared his ideas on what to eat.  I feel much better after my workouts this week.  Last week  I was so tired that I it was hard to do anything after workouts.

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4
Went out last night and skipped dinner.  Made up for it by stopping at Wawa and eating junk.  So today I ran on the treadmill this morning and went to spin class tonight.  Managed to get to the store today to get fruit and veggies for the weekend.  Bring on the snow.
