Philadelphia Magazine’s Fitness Challenge 2010: Devon Montgomery-Bender

A 25-year-old just-married caterer who wants to begin the greatest adventure of her life looking good and feeling great. “I don’t feel beautiful because I know I’m not healthy. I want to start my married life as a healthy, beautiful woman.”

10:00 a.m. OK so I should probably preface today and tomorrow’s post by saying that I’m in a cooking competition. The competition is tomorrow and I’ve been prepping for this since October. Tonight we meet the other contestants. I’m starting to get super nervous since there is so much I have to get done today to get ready but I don’t want to slack on the working out. I’m also a little worried because there is a big dinner tonight and while I would usually enjoy such a lavish meal I need some tips to get me through without ruining my day….

11:33 p.m.
So the meeting went well. Dinner was delightful. Holly told me to drink lots of water so that I would feel full. It was a 5-course tasting menu with wine pairings at Fish restaurant. If you’re curious it was just reviewed in Philly Mag not too long ago. Everything was fantastic and since it was a tasting menu the portions were very small, so I could felt like I could enjoy it. As far as the wine went I just had a sip or two with each course to enjoy the flavor. Still, since tomorrow is my off day I couldn’t slack off I got home and changed and went walking. And by walking I mean one time up the Art Museum Stairs for each course. So right now I’m feeling really good and tired. Tomorrow it’s time to kick some butt in the kitchen!

Competition day and day off from the gym. I woke up with a sore throat and I think it put me off my game all day. I did my best but someone else came away with the win. Totally disappointing. So I went out to drown my sorrows. I’m sorry to say that bourbon and sweet potato fries happened. I’ll definitely be paying for this later.

Woke up sick as a dog. Can’t breathe, running a fever. I know some of you are thinking hangover but this is definitely a cold. Got the doctor to call me in some meds but it looks like I won’t see the outside of my house today.

Still sick today. Spent the day on the couch drinking tea and watching Mad Men. Went through an entire box of tissues.

Better today but not great. Went to the gym to run on the treadmill for a while and I think I over did it a little. I was so cold when I left the house I only wore sweats and I think I may of sweated off almost 3 pounds. Not my greatest move, it left me a little dehydrated. My hubby went out for Gatorade and more tissues. Franks and beans for dinner. Wish I could taste it.
