Philadelphia Magazine’s Fitness Challenge 2010: Deidre McAllister

A soon-to-be-40 working mom who wants to drop pounds so she can keep up with her teenage daughter. “I want to keep up when walking and for her to understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.”

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 4

Still sore but I walked from work.

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 5

I walked home again from work. Meeting Adarrel in the morning and then going skiing with Lark and my brother and his family. Yippee!!!!

SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 6

Well it snowed a lot, Adarrel called and said he is unable to make it to the gym. (notice how I pointed out that he called me). The gym was closed could not get out. My daughter is about to go crazy because we can’t go out. Ben called and said he was still at work. My sister and nephew are stilled snowed in here since yesterday. I think my mother is the only calm one. It gave me a chance to prepare my meals for the week as Brittney suggested.

SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 7

I am really stressing today. Lark’s tuition is due she needs books for school and this is when I would usually eat junk. Lark suggested we go to Macy’s and look for her a Betsy Johnson watch. We walked the entire city some mother and daughter time. (By the way she did not get the watch). My mother did not cook a big Sunday dinner either. My family is really helping me out. Thanks family!!!!!

WEEK 3

 Monday, February 8th – February 14th
MONDAY, FEBRUARY

I was feeling really good today. Lark told me that she joined the Fitness club at school. I am happy because this is really getting us both into shape.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 9

When I arrived at the gym Wendy was there and boy did Adarrel try to work me to death. But he’s the best. Wendy interviewed me after the workout and I looked horrible but It is OK!!! I can’t be beautiful all of the time!!!! (smile) I did not feel sore after my workout at all. I walked home from the gym. Snow and all!!!

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 10

I came to work in this crazy storm. I brought my workout clothes to go to the gym after work. But I walked home from work in the snow from 39th to 13th I feel good but tired. I am going to win this. Lark and I are planning our workout for tomorrow. Planning my menu for my big 40th bash. Trying to see what dress looks good on D.!!!

THURSDAY, FEBRUARY 11

This is crazy!!! No buses are coming so I had to walk home again. It’s OK I feel really good. My mother does not know it but the snacks she just purchased went out of the house. She does not need it and I really don’t need it!!!! Lark does not care!!!

FRIDAY, FEBRUARY 12
Friday, really looking back on this week.If this was last year in a snow storm I would have loaded up on snack food and my mother’s food. Adarrel agreed that Lark can come to my workout Saturday and Sunday’s are our days. I really want her to see how hard it is to take the weight off when you get older. I know she knows but I want her to see how hard I work.  (By the way my mother found out the snacks were gone!!! She blamed my sister)
