Philadelphia Magazine’s Fitness Challenge 2010: Deidre McAllister

A soon-to-be-40 working mom who wants to drop pounds so she can keep up with her teenage daughter. “I want to keep up when walking and for her to understand the benefits of a healthy lifestyle.”

THURSDAY, JANUARY 28

I am still really sore today!!!I had problems walking down the steps to the train. Only did the treadmill for 35 minutes today.

FRIDAY, JANUARY 29

 I did the treadmill, and some squats today feeling much better. I am really pushing on. I hope to do well. I think this weekend is going to be a big challenge. I have jury duty. I was chosen.

SATURDAY, JANUARY 30

 I had to get out early to run errands and take Lark to the dentist by 8. It’s my sister’s birthday and I am going to babysit while she and her husband go away. She brought over birthday cake that I refused to look at because I did not want that temptation. Uggggghhhhh!!!! Okay, about 8pm went to get some cake, opened the box, and saw that it was chocolate. “Thank you God” I hate chocolate cake!!!! I did not eat any. Walked a lot with my daughter today.

SUNDAY, JANUARY 31

 My mother’s coming back into town…I hope she does not cook a big Sunday meal!! This is one of my biggest challenges….“My mother’s meals” I did well though, went to the gym. When I got back it was time to get Lark prepared for school. I had so much to do. Forgot about my paper for school.

WEEK 2

Monday, February 1st – February 7th
MONDAY, FEBRUARY 1

 Monday as always is one of my toughest days. I still am serving on jury duty and it’s hard because I cannot prepare my own lunch. So for lunch I got a salad and green tea. I talked on the telephone to keep me occupied. I do not want to think of all the snacks that were surrounding me at Suburban station. Thanks Greta and Ben for talking to me. Of course I had to run from Center City to take Lark, my daughter to something. I waited around for her and we got home about 7:30 almost 8 pm. Then I had to prepare something to eat now time for her to go to bed and me some D time, writing a paper for school.

TUESDAY, FEBRUARY 2

 I am still on jury duty. I was late today because I went to the gym this morning. I hope today is the last day. It’s Ben’s birthday I did not remind him that I was going to take him out to dinner. Maybe he forgot. (He did) Adarrel really worked me today. I could not do much when I arrived home. Talked to Lark about her day and her test. Her report card arrived today!! Very good, Lark. I had to finish my assignments for school.

WEDNESDAY, FEBRUARY 3

 I meet with Brittney, the dietician today after dropping Lark off at the tutors. Brittney was very helpful. She gave me excellent tips. My sleeping habits were not good. Waking up at 4:00 and going to bed at 11:00. I walked home from the gym where I met Brittney it’s not too far but Adarrel told me to walk instead of taking the bus, driving or a cab so I am really trying.
