Oz: The Complete Sixth Season

Prison homodrama

By Justin Becker

When it comes time to end a series, tying up five or six years’ worth of stories in a dozen episodes can be a bitch. Luckily, the creators of Oz had the one tool in their arsenal that can clear up any problem: the shank. (If only the same could be said of Will & Grace.) Oz follows the lives—and often stabtastic deaths—of the prisoners and staff at Oswald State Correctional Facility, and in the sixth and final season, creator Tom Fontana cleans house like never before. Fontana has never had any qualms about killing off characters, but he pulls out all the stops this time around. Even beloved characters are shot, stabbed, “spooned,” auto-erotically strangled, and stabbed again. Oz’s enormous cast has always been a balancing act—some storylines are great and some are downright awful—but hey, more inmates just means more stabbin’ fodder. imageHBO HOME VIDEO RATED | NR RELEASE DATE | 9.5.06 PRICE | $64.98
