Keen to Be Green

GreenFest flowers on South Street this Sunday

By Amy Strauss

More than 100 exhibitors will throng to South Street to demo new ways to reduce, reuse and recycle through music, food, art and fashion. Ever see an evening dress made of 100 plastic Target bags or a bodice made of umbrella spokes? Green designers showcase in the So Re Fa fashion show — a half-hour performance repeated several times throughout the day — with works made from cruelty-free fabrics, natural dyes and rubber and repurposed materials. Get the environmental 411 via the EcoFilms forum from 1 p.m. to 6 p.m. at Henry George School of Social Science (413 S. 10th Street). (There’s more than just global warming.) But the must-see feel-good event is the eco-friendly green wedding with a three-tiered organic cake and organic flowers and biodegradable utensils, plates and cups. The bride may just get something old, new, borrowed and … green.
