Barbara Botting, Philadelphia Home’s very own stylist extraordinaire, transformed Terrain at Styer’s circa-1890 building from a sad, ’80s-addled office into a luxurious, garden-inspired conference space. Her vision: “a simplified, chintz-free English cottage-style room with filtered light and niches for garden implements, cloches, plants, botanicals and books,” she says. The ground-up renovation included exposing and refinishing original hardwood floors, commissioning bespoke lighting, adding data ports and outlets, choosing the perfect paints — and exploring Terrain’s “art house” and Urban Outfitters’ warehouse for vintage filing cabinets, fireplace fenders, iron hooks, colorful fabrics — and one very charming birdcage. COMMENT:
An outlet of phony crap is Terrain at Styers. So ridiculous is the effect they stage that it borders on camp. Faux of every ilk is over merchandised and overpriced. This place was once an authentic old school nursery with history, horticultural wisdom and class. Urban Loutfitters greedy touch has transformed it into a sad memory.
Transported to a wonderland of design and ideas
