Health: Recess for Big Kids

With Philly’s area kickball teams, fitness can be fun

Finding a way to escape the treadmill and get your cardio kicks outside just got a whole lot easier. Registration is now open for Philadelphia-area kickball leagues. The weekly, adults-only games are the perfect way to tone those legs and stretch out all the kinks after a long workday — and who doesn’t remember the can’t-be-beat feeling of clearing the bases after whomping the rubber ball over the other team’s heads?

Lucky you, you no longer have to shake out our piggy bank to join! For around $60 for the eight-week season, you get a team shirt, all the necessary game equipment, team parties and tons of new friends. The leagues are organized by the World Adult Kickball Association (no joke), and games are played at either Chamounix Field in Fairmount Park or Greenfield Park in West Chester. Games get started as early as May 7, so don’t waste any time gathering your friends or just signing up solo — you’ll get placed on a team with other fun singles or couples — and hit the grass with a big red ball.

Keystone League games are Wednesdays at 6:30 p.m. from May 7 to July 2 at Chamounix Field 1 in Fairmount Park, $65 per person, registration closes May 14

Liberty League games are Thursdays at 6:30 p.m. from May 8 to July 3 at Chamounix Field 1 in Fairmount Park, $65 per person, registration closes May 15

West Chester League games are Fridays at 7 p.m. from May 23 to Aug. 15 at Greenfield Park, 625 S. Franklin Street, West Chester, $63 per person, registration closes May 30
