The views from the fifth hole at Pine Valley, the clubhouse at Merion, and Spring Mill’s bunkers aren’t what they used to be. They’re better. Not only are more women than ever playing through, but they’re taking a cue from LPGA competitors like sleek Michelle Wie, pretty-in-pink Brittany Lincicome — even midriff-baring Natalie Gulbis — and bringing style to the greens. That’s no surprise to Haddonfield designer Keri Murschell. Five years ago, tired of prettying up her boring men’s golf bag with ribbons, Murschell founded Keri Golf, a line of youthful, durable and, most of all, ladylike club-carriers and accessories. “I thought it would be fun to create something for younger women players like me,” she says. Murschell was one of the first to do a pink bag; today, top LPGA pros like Christina Kim and Se Ri Pak get their monograms stitched onto the Neapolitan-striped, polka-dotted or fancifully floral bags. So do some of the more fashionable ladies at Philadelphia Country Club, where the limited-edition collection — including head covers and totes — is for sale in the pro shop.
