Good Life Daily: Garden Party Chic

By Emily Gagne

The invitation for my mid-August engagement soiree describes the gathering as a “Garden Party.” (My bright idea.) Cue about a million dress code questions (mostly from my fiance, who insists that none of his college buddies will understand what a “Garden Party” is).

When offering a friend attire advice (“It will probably be hot outside, so nothing too heavy. Tables will be set up in the grass, so no heels. And it’s somewhat casual.”), I realized that I didn’t even know what to wear to my own party. A short cocktail dress without heels is out of the question, so I conjured up the perfect dress in my head and set out to find it: a long, flow-y, wildly printed, empire-waist dress. One that would pair perfectly with my favorite gold thong sandals and my usual armful of gold bangles.

And there, in Bloomies, I found it.

This floor-grazing Laundry by Shelli Segal chiffon frock, with its chocolate-brown swirls and yellow punches of color, fits the bill. It’s not your typical summer sundress — and that’s why I love it. Plus, Rosa, the seamstress at Bloomingdale’s in Willow Grove, effortlessly pinned, tucked and fitted it, so now I can float around my Garden Party in a dress that looks like it was made just for me.

As for what my fiance’s friends will be wearing … that’s another question.
