GETTING OUTTA HERE: Post-Holiday Getaways

Travel editor Christy Speer has her eye on these two oh-so-tempting deals right now

Don’t you just haaaate this time of year? The holiday parties are done, spring is so far away, and the winter just yawns before you like a big, barren, freezing suckhole. (I’m not so much a winter person … ). Which is exactly why I like to plan a little getaway — it’s something to look forward to, and there always seem to be better-than-average deals floating around about this time.

My favorite at present is the one from Casa Marina Resort and neighboring Reach Resort, both Waldorf Astoria properties located in Key West. For $269 a night, you can stay at either of the beautiful beachside destinations, nosh on your free breakfast (for two!) and use your $50 resort credit to snorkel with the dolphins. (Book by the 31st, and they’ll throw in a complimentary one-night certificate with a future 3 paid night stay.) The sprawling Casa Marina is the more majestic of the two; The Reach is the more modern, boutique-style hotel. Both are stunners. Visit Hemingway’s old house, go deep-sea fishing, hit the spa for a Swedish massage, and see if that doesn’t brighten up the winter blues.

There’s also a lovely offer coming from the fabulous Jackson Hole Four Seasons Resort for you people who actually like the wintry weather but still want a break from the same-old, same-old. For $2,975 per person, you can take yourself out west and shake things up with the famed resort’s first-ever How-to-Heli camp, where you’ll be able to swoosh down the sky-high and pristine slopes of the Tetons thanks to, yes, a helicopter ride up to the top. The price is steep on its face, but it includes the helicopter, two days of on-mountain instruction, lift tickets, a third day of heli-skiing and four nights of accommodations. In your free time, of course, there’s all the (gourmet) hot cocoa you can drink, soothing mountain-clay body wraps, three on-site restaurants, and your big, fluffy Four Seasons bed. The camp goes from February 3 to the 7 … sign up now!
