I don’t understand all the disgust with Jarrett, I’m actually (incredibly) agreeing with Reid on this. Jarrett simply doesn’t have the vision and coverage skills to fit our defense. Why all the hate towards football scouts and evaluators and whatnot? Name one team that has flawless drafts, year after year. Hell, belichick can’t draft for sh!t.
Ironically, Jarrett would be great on a team like Bmore (i.e., Bernard Pollard)
Incredible that in year 14 and his arse firmly planted in the hot seat…Reid is as arrogant as ever!
Where’s the arrogance? Reid knows what the deal is, the reporter knows what the deal is, you know what the deal is, we all do…he simply wasn’t as good as people thought. Why force Reid to bad-mouth him at a public press conference?
Arrogant would be if he threw Jarrett under the bus.
Exactly. I’m not advocating throwing Jarrett under a bus. I’m saying instead of treating beat writers (who are speaking for us) like they have no idea what’s going on…how about a little humility and honesty? Reid messed up another high draft pick…own it.
How many other coaches in the history of the NFL are allowed to have completely control of EVERYTHING yet going into their 14th season still not having won a Super Bowl?
Because like he said, he wants to give him a chance to catch on with another team. If he publicly says he’s too slow, too dumb, whatever, other teams see this and won’t give him a chance. Reid has always been a player’s coach. He rarely throws them under the bus and looks out for them. And the players respect him for that. You don’t need Reid to tell you water is wet to make it true for you.
I think cutting the guy shows he admitted a mistake.. keeping Jarrett on the roster would be arrogant.
Exactly, if he wasn’t good enough to win a job here with special teams players at best and maybe some talent within allen, no way he has any talent and will probably suffer the same fate from another team. The NFL doesn’t discriminate, if you have talent, they will find you. Look how many idiots are given mulligans in life due to talent?
When reid said
“I know you want me to keep repeating it but I don’t want to do that” what he really was saying was “I know you want me to say to the media that he stinks, but I won’t.” which is why he followed up with “This gives him a chance to hook on with somebody and be a contributor in this league and make a living. I think that’s probably what the fans care most about.” He was saying to the report “this is really what you should be aware of and shut your mouth. Who are you to ruin a kids chances, so move on I’m not going to give you jack”
Who cares about Jarrett? WHo cares if teh fans want to know more. Let’s hope Sims is better than Jarrett long term and move on.
There could be more to the story. He could be getting all Brooklyn on players or spending too much time shagging young Owls. No one knows the whole truth, and I respect Andy for not hanging the poor guy in public and making it hard for him to find another job.
Exactly, how many other coaches in this league would have wavered under that line of questioning. How many bosses out there have we all worked for that would do something like that. Obviously they didn’t like him and are giving him an out with “scheme” instead of saying he stinks. He was a mistake, it happens in the NFL and JJ’s are a dime a dozen on EVERY team in the league. This is the kind of stuff they are talking about when they say reid is a “players coach.”
