The archetype of the no-nonsense South Philly Italian waitress may have been born at this well-worn Italian Market landmark, amid the letterboard menus, brimming glasses of chianti and plates of giant meatballs. Occasionally one of Villa di Roma’s servers lets slip a “hon” while asking if you like your enormous plate of linguine Abruzzi or chicken parm, and if you look closely, you might catch a hint of a smile when you simply nod, mouth too full to tell her that you don’t just like, you love.
