9. Vetri

Homer sang hymns to Demeter and Apollo. American food bards sing hymns to Marc Vetri—and also his wine guru, Jeff Benjamin, if they’re savvy. Dinner at this mansion of ethereal pastas is the priciest ticket in town, but it delivers a blend of rusticity and elegance that’s rare in any city—let alone ours, where white tablecloths give us the willies but special occasions still call out for unerring service and cooking that has integrity.

Insider Tip: The coursed wine pairings show what happens when an inspired sommelier mind-melds with a master chef.

He is a great leader, spiritual, and a beast when he hits the field. I am glad to see him where he can be appreciated. Although I live in Houston

  • Jim in Houston

As a Texans fan, I was sorry to lose Ryans. It was necessary under the salary cap — it allowed us to resign our left tackle and QB, and should give us room to resign our top pass rusher — but we really wish we had him back.

That said, it is great to see him continuing his tradition of great, smart play. Congrats to the Eagles for getting one of our best, and good luck to Ryans.

The Defense played their hearts out yesterday. I still considered that a feeling out of each other game.

Hats off to Ryans and Kendricks, also Jordan was in on more than his share of key special team tackles. And the DBs, all of them were on point.

Yesterday you may have watched the two top pass defenses in the NFL going at each other. It’s obvious some of the Eagles Fans were taking Cleveland lightly, especially their pass defense which was one of the top two best last year despite their record.

There’s play calling and there’s execution. If the pass blocking isn’t there, or the QB gets confused as to what uniform his team is wearing, this offense just won’t work well. McCoy ran enough. They need to use Brown and/or Havili more. That being said, this offense is built to throw the ball. Let’s all hope the blocking and passing allows it to run the way it was designed.

I bashed Ryans all preseason. I give him credit along with rest of defense. He played well.

Same here.. but now my concern has shifted to Kendricks’ goal line pass defense. He was beaten on a overthrow and he’s already given up a TD in preseason when manned up down there.

So you admit you gave Mecco a hard time over preseason, recant, and then do it again with Kendricks? Just saying…. I didn’t get to watch the game (deadskins vs saints) but everything I read and heard from the talking heads was that he is going to be a beast. The real test for both is next week in a NFL proven run game.

I definitely worry that Ryans was not showing enough in preseason. Kendricks is and will be a stud but do i trust him when the other team is at the five and he’s manned up against a TE? No, not yet. Its early and he’s only had like eight nfl qtrs.. just something Im keeping my eye on

On a side note though, is it me or did the igg’s hit with every pick in the first 4 rounds? Finally a dude that is playing his position that he played in college and at a high level…..what a novelty. This draft could go down as the greatest draft in the Reid era……dare I say in the superbowl/free agent eras?

So far the Ryans trade is looking awesome.

Eagles D played the ball; can’t say as much for Marty’s play calling which won’t cut it against Ravens next week.
