5. Le Virtù

Joe Cicala’s homage to Abruzzo gets more right than the pasta (which it does gloriously). It actually feels like a place you’d find out in the Italian countryside, where beautifully rustic food goes for family-friendly prices.

Food Wow: The m accheroni alla mugnaia is a single noodle—a six-foot-long hand-rolled ode to chewiness, dosed with garlic and chili flakes.

Cold-Weather Cure: Savory pecorino crepes in chicken broth is the bowl of chicken soup your mom never made you.

Fun Fact: Sheep’s-milk cheeses are served with honey made by bees on the same Abruzzi farm where the sheep are raised.

Watching Vick drop back so slow time after time, looking sloppy, holding the ball in one hand, Mr. Cool, says everything about who he is. Great QB get into the drop back with smooth urgency and then fire in rhythm. Vick coasts back, taking extra half seconds, allowing the defense to be that much farther into their rush. You gotta move on at the end of the year.

reid’s fault? really?, stop blamming him. it was vick’s fault, period! played horrible, lucky it was against a rookie QB. Foles should be playing. he is our future and way better than vick in the west coast offensive. he can read a defense and throw to the OPEN reciever, not the one how is running into triple coverage like Vick did at least 15 times i had to stop counting. and back to reid’s fault, vick did not play in the pre season, it is obivous that vick is ‘a bit” rusty. so much for playoffs. Playoffs? you all are kidding yourselves.

Yes and no. Vick was horrible, making bad decision after bad decision (I would have pulled him after the 4th pick), but the o-line and Reid did not try to help him at all. Abandoning the run early with slow developing pass plays? If you’re a head coach and see your QB and o-line struggling and your RB playing well, what is the right decision? Dialing up 50 more pass plays or making adjustments to help your QB improve and the team succeed? It’s fine to hate Vick for his past, but at least be fair when calling him out.

The browns did what the whole nfl will do, guard against the pass, the eagles are a one trick pony when it comes to play calling, Right Andy?

    • http://twitter.com/Lez215 Kal

Browns last year had one of the top two Pass Defenses in the NFL, but that did not stop the Eagles from going at them and winning the game with a touch down pass with under 2 minutes left, Character Check! and idiotic Game Planning.

56 Pass Attempts is a good reason Andy and Marty should be drug tested this Morning. Shady could have run for a duce if the geniuses would have handed him the ball. 56 Attempts is probably the reps for an entire pre Season but they were taking a huge risk being the line could not keep anyone from hitting Vick.

Why expose Vick to all of those hits after it was obvious the Line could not pass protect?

I was caught between taking Vick out and Bringing in Edwards, I didn’t want Foles to be exposed to the mauling so soon, beatings like Vick were taking sometimes harms new rookie Quarterbacks for the rest of their career. Who knew the Browns pass rush, without Phil Taylor was to violent, or was it the effort of the Offensive Line?

  • http://twitter.com/PhiIs_Goodman Phils Goodman

No one has touched on the main reason why the Eagles did not need to pass so much — the Browns offense was completely incapable of moving the ball. That is the main reason, after all, that the Browns defense faced the 2nd most rushing attempts as well as the 2nd fewest passing attempts in the NFL last season.

Translation – I’m to o stubborn to run to setup the pass, I will keep passing to setup the run

  • http://twitter.com/daggolden daggolden

This is Reids fault. The oline was horrible. So what does he do pass more! You make Vick get hit time after time and you wonder why he gets skiddish in the pocket. That offensive line couldnt pass block anyone. Why wouldnt you use mass protection?

  • http://twitter.com/MykeLane Michael Lane

Let me see… Vick is rusty and takes shots with each drop back….. I have Shady Mccoy rushing seven times for fifty yards (probably more minus the holds)…. and the OL isnt pass protecting well….. um yeah let me keep dialing up pass plays.

    • xlGmanlx

Exactly, who goes away from the run when Shady was at one point averaging over 7 YPC. The browns did well what they did last year, defend the pass and the red zone, two things the iggs didn’t care to take into account. I wonder how good their run d is? Would you think the iggles learned from when other teams used their weaknesses against them? Sometimes reid and M “kickoff in OT” M are too smart for their own good. Its like putting in winston justice against Osi and not giving him any protection…

Ok, Marty, we play Cleveland, they were ranked last year 2 vs pass and 30 vs run. We have an athletic QB that can run but cannot hit a train in a tunnel (we seem to like those kind of QB, BTW) and we have a top 3 RB in the league plus 2 promising young guys that we saved roster spots for instead of keeping guys like Hanson and Dixon as insurance policy…. That sure means we gonna run the ball like crazy, this time, right Andy?
No, Marty, here’s what we gonna do, we’re gonna pass 56 times even if, say, god fordid, our QB is in a very bad day or even if we lead for most of the game … And we will run 23 times max with over 5 yds a carry !! Oh yeah, and MV will run 6-7 times by himself too, but no designed runs for him, that might keep him to getting hit by a bus each time he carries the damn ball!
Well, ok , Andy, u’re the boss , well maybe not for very long, but you’re still the boss!

  • xlGmanlx

I think we can lay off Juan for a second, and put the attention back on Marty. His play calling has been TERRIBLE over the years

  • saunhi

Vick just had his pre- season tuneup… in Cleveland:)

  • Wilbert M.

That may have been the worst play calling I have ever seen in my 40 years of watching the NFL. Vick is completely ill-equipped for the west-coast offense. McCoy was dominating, but they wouldn’t use him. Almost no vertical game whatsoever, even we have the fastest player in the NFL. The defense played great! Andy and Marty should be ashamed. Maybe Juan is the smart one?

  • limodriver27

Disqus is killing me. I’ll try this again.
What happened to the short/mid range pass game instead of going ‘yard’ each play. Hey Marty..did Browns D show you anything after testing them the first 25 long ball pass attempts? Sheesh..throw a curve ball once in awhile.

  • limodriver27

Hey Marty, the rationale of what the Browns D was giving you..how’d that work out for ya? Your offense was totally pathetic-similar to square peg in round hole. What ever happened to short/mid range passing game to mix things up a little? Simply embarrassing.

  • 6-2 stack

Same story, different season. The sooner we replace Reid and Vick, the sooner we can move on.
